This impressive monument had witnessed the passing of time in this city, nearly 2000 years of history occurred in between the limits of its walls. Its original construction is from the 1st century, with the same outline and area of the current one. Alfonso the 6th (1048-1109) ordered the reconstruction of the walls after the conquest of Toledo and the construction that still holds up to this day was ordered by Alfosno the 8th (1155-1214).
